Tried another viral spot in LA but this time it's matcha!!! Known for their cream top, Maru Coffee is a trendy authentic spot. Their matcha is earthy, mixed with their cream top it's worth the drive & the cost. The matcha is not sweet if that's what you are looking for. For an additional cost, the cream top sweetens up the latte with subtlety. It is given on the side in a small cup allowing for personalization. Can be a line but service is efficient.

Maru has been on my list of matcha shops to try, and I'm saur happy I finally got to try it out. I love my matcha sweet and creamy, but if you prefer yours on the bitter side, this is the place for ya! I feel like I would have enjoyed my matcha more if it had been a bit sweeter. I don't have a sweet tooth, but it just wasn't as sweet as I expected. Maybe I came on an off day? Regardless, the matcha was good, just not as sweet and creamy as I prefer. The interior of Maru is aesthetically pleasing, and although the line was a bit long, I'd definitely give it another try. Located in the Arts District in DTLA, it gave off hipstery vibes. Next time I come, I really want to try their coffee :)

Great hip, aesthetic cafe with many tea and coffee options! Came here to originally try their matcha, but the barista recommended the creamtop coffee and the san-mi blend expresso for my friend. The creamtop coffee was an essentially coffee with sweet cream, while the san-mi blend expresso had a citrusy, sweet nutty flavor. Both recommendations were superb! Service was very quick and would come again to just chill/study here!

Their menu features a variety of specialty coffees and freshly baked pastries. Service is friendly and efficient. I like their matcha with cream top. They had a special pastry pop up today and all the pastries were great. Parking wasn't too bad when we came before noon. They're pet friendly and have a gender neutral restroom. Overall nice vibes.

Loveeeee Maru. Seriously one of my favorite coffee shops and I've been to A LOT. Honestly I get the cream top every time and it DOES NOT disappoint! Even their merch says cream top on it so ya know it's good! The area it's in is a bit rough but once ya walk through the doors you'll be transported. Love the natural light and vibes. Wish there was a bit more seating since it's a popular spot.

Been to a handful of matcha shops across LA and Orange County and I must say that this is the one! Creamiest most decadent cream top that I've tried with the caveat that they hand it over to you in a separate cup and you can pour as much or as little as you like. The matcha itself is earthy, deep, and savory which is what you want in an authentic matcha. One thing I've noticed that was different was that they have the matcha dissolved in a larger pot that they scoop out from, which is extremely green and thick! Which tells me that they probably make more of it throughout the day on an as needed basis and they probably use a substantial amount of matcha to make it so thick and green in color. I would say this is definitely in the top 3 for me and the staff was so friendly and accommodating with very quick service, even on a busy rainy day .

My FAVORITE cafe for matcha in all of Los Angeles. I adore Maru as it tastes closest to authentic matcha that I can imagine. I've been here too many times to say. The cafe is always chill with heavy foot traffic, for obvious reasons (it's good!). I like to spend a Monday here at the corner seat next to the window from 9-3pm. I run through 1 matcha and a sesame croissant by then The WiFi is not always the strongest if you need to take meetings though as people really do come here to work so many computers connected to it. Also, a great place to people watch and get some fashion inspo too if you've been in your own bubble.

Recommended by my tattoo artist! My bf and I stopped by after my touch-up. Small chain in LA. Industrial building with open, minimal interior. Lots of folks working away on a weekday noon, not a single seat open. We popped in and out-- our drink was ready in 2 mins. Veeeery efficient (and friendly!) staff. VANILLA BEAN LATTE (iced, oat milk): Rich and bold brew with low acidity. Their beans have a complex warmth to the flavor; plus vanilla is velvety smooth. Ended up buying their coffee beans for home. Of all the coffee we've had on our LA trip (so much... Caffeine...), Maru was easily one of the best. Will have to be back to try their matcha.
